At the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) held at the end of 2023, participating countries reached a historic agreement marking the end of the fossil fuel era. According to the roadmap, economies are now initiating a fair transition to environmentally friendly energy sources. This global effort aims to limit the Earth’s temperature rise to below 1.5 degrees Celsius, addressing climate change and irreversible environmental disasters.
After more than three decades of opening its economy, Vietnam has set an ambitious goal to achieve high-income status by 2045. During the 2021-2030 period, the sustainable economic development of the country will heavily depend on the efficient management of natural resources and production methods. However, with over 3,200 km of coastline, low-lying terrain, and river delta areas, Vietnam is among the most vulnerable countries to climate change globally. According to the World Bank, without appropriate adaptation and mitigation measures, climate change is estimated to cause Vietnam damages of around 12% – 14.5% of GDP annually by 2050, tripling the 3.2% GDP figure in 2020 (approximately 10 billion USD).
In order to create an open space for discussion and explore directions in the trend of sustainable development within the business community, Forbes Vietnam is organizing the THE GREEN GROWTH FUTURE development conference. The conference gathers experts and leaders from businesses leading the market to discuss current topics on low-carbon economies, climate change mitigation, and the path towards sustainable development.
Climate change
The devastating and irreversible economic consequences of climate change for Vietnam if no joint efforts and decisive, timely actions are taken.
Low-carbon economy
Record-breaking heat events globally are attributed to extreme weather phenomena resulting from greenhouse gas emissions originating from industrial activities.
Colllective action
The circular economy is born with a closed-loop production cycle, in which waste is returned to the production process as raw materials, thus reducing negative environmental impacts.
Reducing Carbon Footprints
Governments, including Vietnam’s, are committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prevent global warming.
The event brings together high-level leaders, sustainable development experts, non-profit and non-governmental organizations, and domestic and international business representatives.

In order to create an open space for discussion and explore directions in the trend of sustainable development within the business community, Forbes Vietnam is organizing the NEW ECONOMY development conference. The conference gathers experts and leaders from businesses leading the market to discuss current topics on low-carbon economies, climate change mitigation, and the path towards sustainable development.
In 2023, the Earth experienced its hottest year in 125,000 years. Record-breaking heat events globally are attributed to extreme weather phenomena resulting from greenhouse gas emissions originating from industrial activities, business operations using human-produced industrial products, or services. In Vietnam, major urban areas noticeably feel the heavy impact of environmental issues on living and working conditions. Meanwhile, many other regions face challenges related to natural disasters, floods, landslides, and more. In this presentation, an international expert will provide an overview of the low-carbon economy, its benefits, and current restructuring trends to foster sustainable development.
Carbon footprint refers to the volume of greenhouse gases emitted during the production and utilization of industrial goods or human services. Governments, including Vietnam’s, are committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prevent global warming, which can lead to climate change disasters.
In this panel, business leaders will discuss methods to reduce carbon footprints. Additionally, export businesses will talk about transitioning to green production to meet new trade agreement standards, and experts will share insights on the CBAM and its implications for Vietnamese businesses in the carbon market.
The Mekong Delta (ĐBSCL) is a key economic region in Vietnam, comprising 19% of the population, contributing around 15% to GDP, and accounting for over 50% of rice production, 65% of aquaculture, and 70% of fruit production in the country. However, the Mekong Delta is the region most heavily impacted by climate change: saltwater intrusion, droughts, floods, erosion, and subsidence threaten the livelihoods of over 20 million people, affecting the development of one of Vietnam’s most important and strategic regions. In the second main speech, an expert will present an overview of how climate change affects the economy of the Mekong Delta, propose solutions, and advocate for sustainable development.
In the first discussion session, experts and representatives from leading businesses will exchange ideas on practical solutions in business to protect the environment. Specific actions by businesses include energy conversion, use of eco-friendly materials, limiting greenhouse gas emissions, implementing circular economy solutions, utilizing waste materials, and reducing waste disposal into the environment.
